Time flies when you are watching a good movie

January is almost behind us...spring is just around the corner. Wait, I thought it already was spring. But it is January, how can it be spring as well? Crazy mid 50 degree weather in January...I am hoping that THE WOLFMAN, which comes out on February 12th will provide sufficient chills to counteract the startlingly spring-like winter weather.

I like the idea of remaking classic horror films so that a new generation is able to appreciate a classic story. Hope this new version strikes the delicate balance between keeping the long time horror fans happy and bringing new ones into the fold. Universal Pictures seems to do horror well, releasing some of our favorite originals such as The Hunchback of Norte Dame, The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein and of course The Wolf Man as well as such modern classics as DRAG ME TO HELL...yes, I just called DRAG ME TO HELL a modern classic. And I am sticking to my guns. We must not forget those campy movies that make you both laugh and scream at the same time. They are just as much a part of the horror genre these days as are their more classically structured and acted brethren. I seem to have gotten distracted from my original thread but my real point is that THE WOLFMAN has made me think about how movies are constantly evolving, like living things, dependent on the world around them, the people that watch them and what came before them. Interesting food for thought for movie lovers and movie publicists alike I think...

1. The sets and costumes that provide the backdrop for the film are warm red and yellow hues that will warm you from the inside.

Seattle Stares at Goats

Last Thursday the Guild45th hosted two special guests at the advance screening of Overture Film's THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS...two real goats from New Moon Goat Rescue and Sanctuary (a link to their facebook page is below). A fun time was had by all and the goats were kind enough to only do their business on the plastic provided for them...so polite :) I always like when we can do special things like this for our movies (you might remember the horse at the Oak Tree for Seabiscuit...).

Zombieland

Zombieland came out this past Friday and it was #1 in the box office! Woo Hoo! In a time when movie studios are actually loosing money on films, i.e. the cost to make a film is more than they recoup with box office sales, it always makes me happy when a film like Zombieland does this in ONE WEEKEND! Maybe it is because people weren't expecting much from ANOTHER zombie film but then when people saw it at one of our 6 local advance screenings, they told all their friends about it and, BOOM, box office magic. I like to think so at least :).

We were lucky enough to have some of our local zombie at a few of our screenigs. Check out the pics below and join them on their Zombie Walk on the 10th of October in Seattle.

A SERIOUS MAN - Wednesday, October 7

A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and “F-Troop” is on TV. It is 1967 and Larry Gopnik (Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Wolff) is a discipline problem and his daughter Sarah (McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job. All-the-while an anonymous hostile letter-writer is trying to sabotage Larry’s chances for tenure at the university, and a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade while threatening to sue him for defamation. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man?

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs...Feeding America for a Chance to end Hunger

I can't believe that September is almost here and fall is just around the corner! Fall is my favorite season because not only is it my birthday season but it is also the season of my second favorite holiday, Halloween AND it is a time when this pale redhead can stop worrying about getting sunburned cozy up to a cup of cider and a comfy sweater.

Fall is also the time when food drives start kicking into gear in anticipation of the holiday season and in these lean times, it is especially important that if we can give...anything, we do so. This is why it is so cool that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, from Columbia Pictures is teaming up with Feeding America for its September 18th release. Not only should you go see the movie but you should also visit your local food bank and make a donation.
